GRAVETTE -- Officers in the Gravette Police Department raised a total of $200 through their participation in the No Shave November challenge, according to police chief Chuck Skaggs. Each officer donated $5 a week during the month of November to pay for the privilege of wearing a beard.

The money raised was taken to Gravette Middle School and presented to Roger Sharp, middle school counselor. The funds were used to assist five families from the Gravette area with their Thanksgiving dinners.

The police department partnered with the middle school to purchase ingredients for the meals for families in need. Students in Family and Consumer Science classes put the boxes together for families to pick up at the school.

"It was rewarding for our department to be able to assist those in our community," Skaggs said.
