DECATUR -- The Lady Bulldogs had their hands full as they took on the Alpena Lady Leopards Dec. 13 in the second district contest and the last home game of 2016 at Peterson Gym.

Decatur hit the court with the same confidence and determination it had during the win against the Union Christian Eagles on Dec. 1. The Lady Bulldogs put the first points of the Dec. 13 contest on the scoreboard on a three-point shot by Sammie Skaggs, setting the pace for the first half of the contest.

The Lady Bulldogs held a slim lead throughout the first half and going into the end of the third quarter. But the Lady Leopards fought back and eventually overtook Decatur to take a 49-31 win.

Decatur closed out the first half of the season by traveling to Fort Smith for a rematch with the Lady Eagles of Union Christian on Dec. 16.

This was a very close matchup, with the lead going back and forth throughout the entire 32 minutes of the contest. But a last second shot by the Lady Eagles gave them a one-point advantage and eventually the game, 40 to 39.

The Lady Bulldogs will resume the second part of the 2016-17 season with a 1A district 1 contest against the St. Paul Saints in Saint Paul Jan. 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Decatur will return to Peterson Gym in Decatur Jan. 10 to take on the Kingston Yellowjackets. Start time for that contest is 5:30 p.m.
