Lady Bulldogs drops basketball game to Lady Beavers

DECATUR -- The Decatur senior girls' basketball team was in action Jan. 5, taking on the Lady Beavers of Hartford at Peterson Gym in Decatur.

The Lady Beavers put the first points on the board at the 6:26 mark in the first quarter. One minute later, the Lady Bulldogs scored their first points of the game. Both teams struggled at the boards throughout the rest of the opening quarter. Hartford pulled ahead of Decatur, ending the quarter, 7 to 4. The second quarter saw the Lady Bulldogs fight back and tie the game at 11 all with 52.6 seconds left in the half. Neither team scored in the remaining seconds, ending the second quarter, 11 to 11.

In the third quarter the Lady Bulldogs took the lead at the 7:27 mark. But Hartford tied the game at 13 just 30 seconds later. The game remained tied at 15 until the 2:23 mark when the Lady Beavers regained the lead. The third quarter ended with Hartford in control, 22 to 15. The Lady Bulldogs defense came out strong in the fourth quarter, holding the Lady Beavers scoreless until the 4:45 mark. But Decatur failed to capitalize on the offensive boards, allowing Hartford to extend its lead. The Lady Beavers won the game, 35 to 21.

In other Lady Bulldog action, the junior high girls defeated the Lady Beavers, 29 to 12. The Decatur seventh grade girls also defeated Hartford, 9 to 8.
