Gravette Lions hold planning meeting

GRAVETTE -- The Gravette Lions Club held its regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 19, at Imagine Before and After School Care. The main item of business was planning for the Lions' membership drive meeting which will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Arvest Bank community room.

Keynote speaker will be Ben Kelly, the "Voice of the Naturals." Kelly, play by play announcer for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, will give a PowerPoint presentation and answer questions about the team, which opens its ninth season this spring. Refreshments will be served. Membership information and applications will be available.

Jeff Davis, club president, gave an overview of club projects planned for this year. Club members plan to repeat their White Cane Day and nut sales in the fall and will man booths with membership information at events such as the fall festival and Renaissance fair.

The Lions Club will sponsor a team in the Gravette summer baseball program and members voted to renew their sign in the outfield this year.

President Davis presented Susan Holland with a Key Award. Membership Key Awards recognize Lions who invite new members. Inviting two new members earns a Lion the first membership key. Seventeen can be earned.

Susan conducted the "tail twister" activity, asking questions from the "How Lionistic are You?" quiz in the January Lion magazine.

Several fundraising projects were briefly discussed. A catfish fry, concert and "Lionfest" festival were suggested as possibilities. Fundraising will be discussed further at the next meeting.

The next meeting of the Lions Club will be held at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the In Zone restaurant. New members and guests are always welcome.
