Maysville EH Club News

MAYSVILLE -- Ten members were present for the June 23 meeting of the Maysville Extension Homemakers Club. Several members met early to clean the Community Building for Fun Day. We had sack lunches with ice cream for dessert.

Preliminaries included call to order by President Wardlaw, welcome by Jane Wilber, song led by Melinda Crawley, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Gwen Singleton read a short story from her memoir writings.

Melinda Crawley gave the lesson on putting extra canning jars to work. She talked about ways to use old canning jars. Suggestions were: gift in a jar, candle in a jar, storing small items, drinking glasses, shakers and dispensers, and even as a music speaker. Other members contributed to the program by showing how they decorated jars with flowers or grouped several together in a wire container for planting an herb garden.

Minutes and treasurers report were given by secretary Gwen Singleton. Jane Wilber and Dianna Afuvai gave a report on the spring luncheon.

Upcoming events are County Fun Day at Maysville. Visitors are welcome. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Benton County Fair dates are August 9-13. Everyone is encouraged to attend and support this event. Our club will be touring Skyline Printing which is located in Maysville and we will have lunch at the Maysville Handi-Stop for our August outing. We planned a Community Ice Cream Social for July 17, from 2 to 4 p.m. July is Ice Cream Month. We hope many from the community will come and enjoy a dish of ice cream with us and sit and visit with old friends or make new ones.

Our congratulations to one of our Maysville girls, Jessica Crawley, for winning a trip to Australia sponsored by Milking Shorthorn Association.
