Schools should not give in to FFRF intimidation

Editor,

I am not surprised that the Freedom From Religion Foundation has finally found us out in that we allow prayer at our public school. They are "like the lion seeking whom they may devour."

Every time I am present at graduation, football games, or wherever a public prayer in the name of Jesus Christ is given, I thank God for the freedom we have in America to do so.

I hate to sit by and let a threat from the FFRF take that freedom away. Their greatest strength is "intimidation." We do, however, forfeit our freedom to public prayer when we relinquish our right to pray and let them have their way, and that's what they're counting on. There is no such law as "The Separation of Church and State." It is a myth! When challenged and pressured to support their position in a court of law, the FFRF has no foundation, no law to back them up. There have been many victories by schools which have challenged them on their threat, and I think we should do the same by continuing the practice of prayer the way we have been doing. If they do insist on taking us to court, there are several organizations, like Alliance Defending Freedom, The Heritage Foundation and the American Center for Law and Justice, among others, with Constitutional attorneys who defend schools, churches, cities and individuals who want to stand up to the threats against the rights that are insured to us by our Bill of Rights, and they do so pro-bono. It is my plea that for the sake of all of us present now and future generations that our school officials NOT back down, as if it's no big deal, to threats by the FFRF or any others who want to take away our First Amendment rights -- which states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
