— New officers for Gravette Lions Club were installed at the club's July 5 meeting at the In Zone restaurant. Officers for the 2016-2017 fiscal year, elected in May, are Jeff Davis, president; Susan Holland, vice-president, Bill Mattler, secretary; Tina Crose, treasurer; and Ken Foxx, tail twister. Crose and Foxx were not present and will be installed at a later date.

Bill Mattler and Susan Holland introduced their guests, Ashley Harris, president of Waste-Away, LLC, in Hiwasse, and Tammie Loyd, owner of Sophie's Boutique in Gravette. Ken Swanson of Bella Vista, chair of the Lions' district global membership team, was also a guest at the meeting.

President Davis reported on the results of the club's "Mile of Pennies" collection in June and discussion was held on several upcoming events for the club. These include a bottled water sale August 13 at the car show on Gravette Day, sponsoring a visit of the Benton County Solid Waste District recycling mobile education unit on Sept. 3 and a yard sale on Sept. 17.

In other business, club members voted to forego their evening meeting each month and return to holding both meetings at 12 noon.

Jeff Davis and Susan Holland were recognized for having received Silver Centennial Award pins last month. These pins are awarded to Lions as part of the Centennial Membership Program. They honor those who have sponsored new members who remained members for at least a year and a day.

The Gravette Lions Club was chartered on June 30, 2013. Following the meeting, members and guests enjoyed a birthday cookie with a Lions Club logo to celebrate the end of their third successful year.

The club meets at 12 noon on the first and the third Tuesday of each month at the In Zone restaurant, on Arkansas Highway 59 N. in Gravette. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 19. Prospective members and guests are always welcome.
