Vacation Bible School set at Berean Ministries

Berean Ministries will be having Vacation Bible School the week of June 6-10 from 9 a.m. until noon for children entering grades kindergarten through the seventh grade. Berean Ministries is located in Gravette, a block South of Kindley Park on the corner of Third and Birmingham. There will be games, snacks, Bible lessons, crafts, team competitions and more. Vacation Bible School slated at Heritage Baptist

Heritage Baptist Church, located at 307 Fourth Ave., S.E., in Gravette, will have its annual Vacation Bible School, June 13-17, from 6 to 8 p.m., for children, kindergarten through sixth grade. The theme this year is "Submerged -- Finding Truth Below the Surface." There will be Bible lessons, crafts, games and snacks. Teams will be the Starfish, Seahorses and Sharks. Sulphur Springs VBS

Harvest Baptist Church will be conducting its annual "missional" vacation bible school in Sulphur Springs on June 5-8, starting at 6 p.m., in the Sulphur Springs City Park. This VBS is conducted annually for local children, ages 5-13. Youth are encouraged to attend and help with the smaller children. Food will be provided nightly, in addition to singing, crafts and Bible study.

Old Settlers' Day events planned June 4

Old Settlers' Day events are planned in Colcord, Okla., on Saturday, June 4. Talbot Library and Museum will hold a book and bake sale, with hamburger and hot-dog dinners for sale, live music and drawings for prizes. The Colcord Chamber of Commerce Old Settlers' Day parade is set to begin at 11 a.m. Lineup begins at 10 a.m. Pork lunches (pulled-pork sandwiches, baked beans, coleslaw and chips) will be for sale in the city park; and there will be children's games, a cake walk and music by Stanley Bates. The Colcord Rodeo will be held on June 3 and June 4, featuring the Blizard Rodeo Company (ICRS/ACRA approved). Pre-rodeo events will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will include mini-bare-back riding and mutton busting. The rodeo events begin at 8 p.m.

Annual Fishing Derby

A fishing derby is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, at the Illinois River Watershed Partnership headquarters in Cave Springs. The day will include free kayak and canoe demonstrations and fun for all ages. The lake will be stocked with catfish by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. There will be kid's fishing poles and prizes. Lunch will be served by Cave Springs Fire Department and music will be by DJ and police chief, Joe Powell.

Summer Reading begins June 1 in Gentry

Gentry Public Library will hold its summer reading program, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" from 1 to 3 p.m. each Wednesday from June 1 to July 27. Registration is already underway. The program will include themed guests, games and activities, and a story time followed by a movie and popcorn. The June 1 and June 8 theme is "Back to the '50s." Participants will receive a time sheet to record their time spent reading, and every child completing the time sheet will be invited to a special party with awards and certificates at the conclusion of the summer program. Summer Reading begins June 1 in Gravette

The Gravette Public Library, located at 119 Main Street, S.E., begins its summer reading program, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" on June 1. Each week's session will focus on a different sport or athletic activity and all sessions will not be on the same day of the week. The first two sessions will begin at 10 a.m. The June 1 session will be on dance, and the leader will be Jodi Moore of Dynamic Rhythm Dance Studio. The June 6 session, featuring barrel racing, will be led by Maria Long.

Summer Reading in Decatur begins June 7

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur will begin its summer reading program, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" June 7, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This program will continue every Tuesday in June. The program is open to kids, ages 5-9. The Iva Jane Peek Public Library is located at 121 N. Main St., at the four-way stop sign in Decatur. Gentry Medical Center plans Kids' Free Fun Day

The Gentry Medical Center will host a Kids' Free Fun Day from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, at the Gentry Medical Center and Smith Drug in Gentry. The Kids' Free Fun Day will include hot dogs, drinks, a dunk tank, bounce house, games, face painting, sack races, prizes, giveaways and more. Gentry Fire and Police Departments will be on hand. Local businesses and organizations are donating gift certificates. All are welcome.

Sulphur Springs Library

New summer hours at the Sulphur Springs Public Library will begin Tuesday, June 7. Summer hours will be 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. These hours are planned in coordination with the "Seamless Summer" lunch program which will be held in the same building complex.

OCH Blood Drive

A blood drive will be held at Ozarks Community Hospital of Gravette from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, June 13. The bloodmobile will stay longer if more donors have signed up. The blood drive will take place in the bloodmobile in the OCH of Gravette Hospital parking lot. Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is experiencing a shortage earlier than normal this year and asks that donors come help them reach their goals and save lives. Gravette Farmers' Market open on Saturdays

Gravette farmers' market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Old Town Park. Offerings include locally-grown fruits and vegetables, beef and pork, eggs, a variety of plants, baked goods, jams and jellies. Local crafts will also be featured. Market vendors set up booths in the covered pavilion at the park. The market accepts WIC vouchers and senior market produce coupons issued by the Area Agency on Aging.

Gentry Farmers' Market open three days a week

The farmers' market in Gentry will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the south-side (along Arkansas Highway 12) parking area of Gentry City Park. Farmers may set up between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Gentry Seamless Summer

Free breakfast and lunch for children 18 and under will be served Monday through Friday at the Gentry Intermediate School from June 6 through July 29 (except for June 29). Meals are free to children regardless of age, color, sex, race, nationality or disability. Adults may participate for $2 per breakfast and $3.25 per lunch. Gravette Seamless Summer

Gravette Public Schools, in cooperation with Sulphur Springs Event, Inc., will be providing meals free of charge to children, 18 or under, regardless of whether they attend school in the Gravette Public School District. Meals will be served Monday through Friday, June 6 through July 29, at the following locations and times: Breakfast at Gravette Upper Elementary from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.; Lunch at Gravette Upper Elementary from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Lunch at Sulphur Springs City Hall (the old school cafeteria) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

NWA Riding Club holds

bi-weekly play days

NWA Riding Club will be holding bi-weekly play days at a new arena located at 16949 Highway 102 West in Decatur. Play days will begin with exhibition rides at 2:30 p.m., followed by regular events at 3 p.m. Events will include pole bending, keyhole, barrel racing, goat tying (tentative) and flag racing (tentative). The deadline to sign up for events is 2:30 p.m. Upcoming dates include June 11 and June 18. Regular play-day events are $5 each and exhibition rides are $4. Family memberships are $25 per year. NWA Riding Club is a family-oriented, non-profit organization that offers trail rides, fun events and camp outs throughout the year in addition to play days. Free Shoe Distribution

Samaritan's Feet, in cooperation with local United Methodist Churches from Gravette, Sulphur Springs and Bella Vista, will host a shoe distribution event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at the Gravette United Methodist Church located on the corner of 2nd Street and Akron. Samaritan's Feet is a nonprofit organization that shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of children locally and around the world with a gift of free new socks and shoes for back to school. All school-age children in the Gravette School District are invited to sign up and attend this event. They may stop by the Gravette Public Library, 119 Main Street, S.E., to get their registration form (child's shoe size must be provided). Forms should be returned to the library by June 15.

Highfill Food Pantry

The Highfill United Methodist food pantry is open from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. For more information, call the church at 479-736-1275.

Maysville Food Giveaway

A free food distribution is held the first Saturday of each month at the Maysville Bible Church, Arkansas Hwy. 72 and Cunningham, in Maysville. The next food distribution will be Saturday, June 4. Anyone who is in need of food is welcome to attend.

Decatur Food Pantry

Decatur United Methodist Church has a community food pantry open the first and third Thursday of each month. The only requirement for the pantry is that one live in the 72722 zip code area. An identification and a piece of mail showing one's residence in the Decatur area are required. There is also a USDA commodity program available which is income-based. Those wishing to do so can fill out an application to see if they qualify.

Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas Hwy. 59 N. in Gravette and at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at Imagine Before and After School Care, 206 Birmingham St., S.E. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Hwy. 12, between Highfill and Vaughn. Everyone is invited.
