— Though it had been open for close to three weeks, Gentry Quilts had its grand opening last weekend and cut the ribbon to its new Main Street store on Friday. The Gentry Chamber of Commerce hosted the ribbon cutting for the new Gentry business.

Ruth Morgan took an interest in quilting several years ago and decided to open a quilt shop so that she could spend more time doing what she likes to do and spend more time with people who share her interest in quilting. She began her business in Little Kansas (Kansas, Okla.) about two years ago but, when looking for a building, found a new home for her business on Gentry's Main Street, at 213 E. Main, and bought the building there for a permanent home for her quilt shop.

"I've always wanted to open a shop of some kind," Morgan said, "and when you do something you like to do, it is nice to meet people who have the same interests. That was the main draw," she said, "to share what you like."

Morgan said she likes to quilt and she likes to carry on conversations with other people, and she gets to do a lot of that in her quilt shop.

And Morgan's son, Stephen "Wayne" Edwards, is a co-owner of the business and helps with its operation. On Friday, he was busy helping customers find the items they needed.

Morgan's shop was full from wall to wall with quilting supplies, including patterns, colorful fabric and other items needed in the craft.

And for those who wish, Morgan offers to do machine quilting with a long-arm quilter, located in the back room of her shop. And she's quilted a good number of the quilts entered in the annual Chamber of Commerce quilt show held at the Gentry Public Library.

Gentry Quilts is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday.
