Day for haying is on the way

Glory be, the Memorial Day celebrations were just fine! We went to a parade, waved our personal flags and ate carnival-style food. Then, the grands began to get tired and I was sure I had worn six inches off my legs. We needed ice cream and air conditioning. My close relative never gives up; she would have gone down the other side of the street and looked at "all" the trinket booths.

I was glad to get home and settle in my chair. We plan a big time on the Fourth of July and I am sure thankful it will be here at my home. I would rather foot the bill than walk the streets and swelter! The food will be fittin' too!

We have showers and then sun and hay is still standing. Some have new style equipment that apparently rolls bales up so tight they are like silage. Not us, we are too long paying for what we have to purchase new. I will be interested to see what comes along in another few years.

Flies are bad and we got out the old round rubbing bags and stretched them up between trees. The bags are old, the cows are new and, believe it or not, the cattle love them. We placed them close to the mineral feeders and the cows, steers and heifers all rub on them.

We will spray next week. We always have ticks and spraying just before turning in bulls is a good time. The bulls for spring calving will go to work on Wednesday. We will AI starting on Tuesday. The seeders have been placed and I know it will be pretty busy for awhile.

I attended a meeting of the round table at the coffee emporium last week. We are deep into the political debates. I do believe the folks of America are more law abiding than the politicians are, and if a small town had the under handed business going on that occurs in D.C. there would be a hanging! We are embarrassed if our great-grandfather, twice removed, spit on the sidewalk, let alone mess with government secret files and run for the highest office in the land. All the talk was upsetting, but the apple pie was still good!

My close relative killed a huge snake in her flower bed and had the nerve to holler at me to come see! I moseyed over to look, thinking it might be a nest of baby rabbits. She loves to see me run backwards and scream like a girl!

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, the day for haying is on the way. The season has never in my lifetime just passed without putting up fodder for winter. It will occur and then the days will get hotter and longer, just like the fellers like! We raised two of those who are delighted to work long hours and get hot and nasty. They are blessed to have cabs on the tractors, but they get dirty and sweaty just the same. I hope you fellers are ready and enjoy the bounty the Lord has provided again!

Don't bother to call me to see your dead snakes.
