DECATUR --With the recent rounds of flooding rains, drought and crop failures affecting food prices in the United States, households all around the country are turning to local farmers' markets for fresh, chemical-free produce and other food products needed to sustain a healthy lifestyle.

The Decatur Farmers' Market opened for business June 2 in the parking area of the Farmers Coop/True Value Hardware store in downtown Decatur. On hand were seven vendors selling everything from fresh vegetables, baked and canned goods to art and crafts. Around 100 visitors toured through the booths.

Music was provided by the Hubbard Family trio. Maci Hubbard, lead singer, performed a series of gospel favorites, while brother Easton provided backup vocals and guitar and mother Jenna provided the rhythm.

The Decatur Farmers Market will open every Thursday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. Booths run $5 a space, with a limit of two spaces per vendor. For more information, contact the Decatur Farmers Coop at 752-3399.
