COLCORD (Okla.) -- Though numbers were noticeably down from years past -- perhaps due to all the rain last week and the threat of showers yet on Saturday morning -- spectators were still out along the streets of Colcord Saturday to watch the Old Settlers' Day Parade.

The parade appeared a bit shorter, too, but there were still police cars, firetrucks, a few floats, some political candidates and a good number of equestrian entries. The Shriners of Tulsa again fascinated spectators with their miniature cars and a trike as they raced in circles around the street and weaved in and out past other little cars.

A riderless horse was led in the parade in honor of Steve Hartman, deputy police chief who died last month. Grace Puffinbarger, Miss Talbot Library and Museum, rode inside an ATV in the parade. Bud Simmons, Colcord superintendent of schools, and his daughter led the parade and waved to spectators from the grand marshal vehicle.

At the Talbot Library and Museum, hamburgers and hot dogs were on the grill, with dinners being sold inside. Books and materials were on display and the afternoon promised musical entertainment under the shade trees.

In the park, Stanley Bates was singing to those gathered under the pavilion and preparations were underway for the annual dinner there.
