Cypert says won't run for re-election to school board

GENTRY -- Dani Cypert, school board representative for Zone 2 in the Gentry School District, announced on June 20, at the regular school board meeting, that she will not seek re-election to another term on the school board. Her four-year term expires in September. The new term is for five years.

Cypert offered her resignation to allow another to take her post since her youngest child graduated from high school in May and she would like to devote more time to her work at church, according to Randy Barrett, superintendent of Gentry Public Schools.

Candidates for the Zone 2 post must be a qualified voter, live within the zone, file a petition with a minimum of 20 signatures of qualified registered voters living within the zone or file a notice of write-in candidacy with the county clerk, complete and file an affidavit of eligibility (in person) at the county clerk's office, and complete and file a political practice pledge (in person) at the county clerk's office.

The first day a petition for candidacy may be circulated was June 12 of this year. Filing time for the 2016 school election is between noon on Tuesday, July 5, through noon on Tuesday, July 12. Petition forms are available at offices of the Benton County Clerk and online at www.bentoncountyar.gov.

Gentry Zone 2 is located north of Arkansas Highway 12 from Arkansas Highway 59 to the eastern boundary of the district, or east of Arkansas Highway 59 from Arkansas Highway 12 to Y City Road.

Other school board seats available on the west side of Benton County include the Zones 1 and 2 seats in Decatur and the Positions 5 and 6 seats in Gravette. The Decatur Zone 1 seat is for a five-year term and is currently held by Amy Brooks. The Decatur Zone 2 seat is for the unexpired term of the seat held by Aaron Owens. In Gravette, the seats up for election are currently held by Jim Singleton and Susan Santos and are for a term of five years.
