Diabetes education classes offered at OCH

GRAVETTE -- A series of free diabetes education classes began March 1 at Ozarks Community Hospital in Gravette and will continue through the first week in April. The Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP) classes are being held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday in March, with the final class on Monday, April 1. A trained facilitator leads the classes, which are small enough (usually no more than 20 people) so that class members can ask questions and also learn from others in the class. Classes are held in the OCH cafeteria.

The six-week series of DEEP classes, sponsored by the Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education, is designed to help people with diabetes learn how to take charge of their health. Class members will learn how diabetes affects their body and how to make sense of their blood sugar numbers. They will be able to meet others who have diabetes and have fun learning through games, activities and support conversations.

Registration is required for the class. Register by calling Nancy Galbraith or Rene' Oliver at 479-876-2335.
