Springtown abandons alley, hears project updates

SPRINGTOWN -- Items discussed at Springtown's council meeting on Feb. 9 included storm sirens, road paving and trash service.

According to unapproved meeting notes, Republic Services, the town's new trash service provider, improperly charged a waste bin drop-off fee, but it will be refunded to affected residents.

A technician will be coming out to look at the town's storm siren since it did not go off during the December storms.

It was reported that Benton County is going to pave a portion of Bredehoeft Road -- from Aubrey Long Road to the low water bridge -- and that Springtown was awarded state aid for paving and Springtown Road will be paved later this year.

A lot split was approved for a town resident, and an alley closing petition from Vicky Kimberling was considered since the town owns property adjacent to one of the alleys being petitioned for closure. The council consented to abandon alley.

A public hearing was set for immediately prior to the March town meeting, at 6 p.m. on March 8, to discuss a petition for closing of the Spring Street alley.
