About town....

February 29 was a very emotional day for Decatur as the city suffered two major car accidents within a few miles of its city limits which resulted in two people losing their lives and several others admitted to hospitals from Joplin (Mo.) to Little Rock.

I am praying for consolation for the family which lost loved ones, along with a fast recovery for those who are in hospitals. Furthermore, I am praying for emotional recovery for everyone involved.

I offer a huge recognition for our Decatur Volunteer Fire Department, along with our police department, who worked at both accidents. The accident on Arkansas Highway 102, east of town, happened in a very dangerous location but, with our fire department and police department support, coupled with Centerton Volunteer Fire Department, the injured were cared for. Centerton volunteer firemen backed up Decatur with personnel and equipment. Thank you, Centerton. Arkansas State Police were assisted by our police department and worked together at the scene. I thank the state officers as well.

Please join me in thanking our public safety workers. It is at times like this, when their emotions are on the edge and they are doing all they can in a bad situation, that a smile, handshake or a simple thank you is so helpful and encouraging.

Working together, Decatur is doing awesome things!
