Gentry girls score second win

GENTRY -- On Monday, March 7, Gentry varsity girls' soccer team played on its home field against the Springdale Lady Bulldogs. Despite predicted storm weather, the rain held off for both the girls' and boys' games.

Senior Ana Linch assisted fellow senior Haley Borgeteien-James for the first goal of the match. Later on in the first half, sophomore Haley Hays dropped the ball to Linch, who reared back for a left-footed shot outside the 18-yard box. The final result of the game was a 2-0 win for the Lady Pioneers.

Borgeteien-James reflected on the game and said, "We played well with having some of our players out with injury and worked well with the new formation put in. I think we could have passed it a little better with more spacing but, overall, it went well."

On March 11 and 12, the Lady Pioneer girls' soccer team competed in its first tournament of the 2016 season. It took place in Greenwood, and consisted of mainly 7A schools.

Their first game was played against the Rogers Mounties at 7 p.m. on Friday night. Gentry, unfortunately, suffered a crushing defeat with a final score of 6-0.
