Lady Pioneers play in Clarksville Tournament

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers traveled to Clarksville on March 11 and 12 to play in a softball tournament. The tournament was seven innings or 60 minutes, drop dead.

Gentry's first game was on Friday against Morrilton. The Lady Pioneers were able to play great defense for a majority of the tournament. The Gentry girls were playing a good game; however, one inning got away from them. Gentry was on defense and made a few errors that cost them the game. Morrilton won the game, 6-3.

Gentry was set to play the 7A Har-Ber Wildcats on Saturday at 12:40. The Lady Pioneers were on the field first. Gentry only pitched six pitches in the first inning, shutting Har-Ber down very quickly. The Pioneers second inning was devastating. Gentry made some errors and allowed the Wildcats to score eight runs in one inning.

The Lady Pioneers did not give up after the mistakes. Gentry was able to come back and score six runs in the next inning. Gentry held Har-Ber and didn't let them score anymore, but Gentry wasn't able to score again before time expired. The Har-Ber Wildcats won the game, 8-6.

"There are some thing that we need to improve on, said sophomore Lynzey Sikes. "We did improve our offense this weekend."
