Lions win two in play last week

GRAVETTE -- The Lions picked up two wins last week in games against Oklahoma teams from Grove and Stilwell.

Gravette traveled to Grove on March 15 and edged out Grove, 9-8, with a big sixth inning. With The Lions down, 8-6, after five, Gravette loaded up the bases with two walks and a batter hit by a pitch. Then Kilby Roberts singled to right and brought in Brady Rolsma and Bryce Moorman. Trey Nunnally singled to center and brought in Luke Summerford.

Roberts and Nunnally both had two RBIs in the game. Rolsma had a triple in the first. Roberts also led his teammates in hits, with three. The Lions scored nine runs on 11 hits.

Nunnally pitched seven inning for the Lions, striking out four and walking four. He allowed seven earned runs on 10 hits in the game.

Stilwell 2

Against visiting Stilwell on March 14, the Lions put their only runs on the board in the first and second innings and then played a strong defense to hold Stilwell to solo runs in both the sixth and seventh innings for the 3-2 win.

Jackson Soule' scored for the Lions in the first after hitting a ground-ball single to short, advancing on an error and then scoring. Brady Rolsma and Jace Russ crossed the plate in the second inning. Rolsma singled to second and later scored on a Stilwell error. Russ was batted in by a Chase Owens ground-ball single to center field.

Gravette scored three runs on seven hits. Roberts hit a double in the game. Russ led Gravette in hits with two. Owens had the only RBI.

Roberts threw from the mound for seven innings, allowed three hits and one earned run. He threw seven strikeouts in the game and walked two.
