Council issues permit, waives building fees

— Members of the Gravette city council, at their meeting Thursday night, voted to issue a conditional use permit to Pathfinder Transport, LLC.. The permit will allow the placement of a mobile office and residence to house security personnel at the business located at 13803 N. Hwy. 279 in Hiwasse.

John Holloway, owner of the business, requested the permit because propane storage tanks and trucks for transporting propane are housed on the property. Since liquid propane gas has the potential to be used as an explosive device, the F.B.I. has requested that he provide security at the location, Holloway said. The permit specifies that Holloway will install skirting and keep the mobile home in good repair.

In other business, council members voted to waive building permit fees for the new CV Family Foods grocery store. This includes a $40 fee for an electrical permit. Electrical inspections will be done by a county inspector since Gravette has no city building inspector now.

Council members also passed a resolution establishing a 14-day pay period for city employees and setting a Monday through Sunday work week. They approved an IT policy requested by the legislative audit.

Mayor Kurt Maddox read a proclamation declaring that Gravette is a "Purple Heart City" since many former Gravette residents died to protect our freedoms and several combat-wounded veterans currently live in Gravette and contribute to the community. The proclamation expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by Purple Heart recipients, acknowledged their courage and pledged support to the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Maddox extended a welcome to his sister from Hot Springs who attended the meeting and to the Tates, from Texas, who own several buildings in downtown Gravette.
