Lady Pioneers end season on Thursday

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers first game of the conference tournament was against the Lady Eagles of Huntsville. The game was played on Thursday, April 28, at 2 p.m. in the Merrill Reynolds Memorial Complex.

It was a good game to kick off the tournament for the Lady Pioneers, with the Gentry girls able to get runners on base and runs on the scoreboard. Gentry shut out the Lady Eagles, with the final score being 8-0.

The Lady Pioneers' victory against the Lady Eagles allowed them to play a second game in the district tournament, this one against the Lincoln Lady Wolves. This was a tough game for the Pioneers. Lincoln hit better than Gentry, and that cost the Lady Pioneers the game. Lincoln won, 6-0.

"I want to let all the parents, players and Pioneer supporters know that our coaching staff is extremely proud of the accomplishments these young ladies have had this season," said Lance Nations, head softball coach for the Lady Pioneers. "This was a successful season for Lady Pioneer softball. Thank you for letting us be a part of it."

The tournament loss ended the season for the Lady Pioneers, but the Gentry girls had more wins this season than in the past five seasons combined, making it a successful season.
