GRAVETTE -- John E. Tracy Post 25, American Legion, in Gravette met April 19 to elect new officers for 2017. Officers elected are David Malczymski, commander; Will Crose, first vice-commander; Mark Russow, second vice-commander; Mike Carnahan, adjutant; Al Blair, finance officer; Rose Crose, chaplain, historian and reporter; Louis Kirby, judge advocate; and Glenn Duffy Jr., child welfare.

The Legion post operated a booth on Main Street at the First Saturday events May 7 and distributed patriotic stickers, bookmarks and information about the organization. They also did judging Saturday on the Stamp Out Drugs poster entries submitted by fifth-graders at Gravette Upper Elementary School. Luke Coffee was first-place winner in the poster contest and Riley Schmitt was second-place winner. Their entries will now be sent to state competition.

Gravette Legion members invite all veterans to join them at their meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Gravette Civic Center. They also ask anyone who has worn out flags to take them to city hall or Care and Share to be picked up for disposal at the post's annual flag-burning ceremony.
