Summer Reading in Gentry

Gentry Public Library will hold its summer reading program from 1 to 4 p.m. each Wednesday from June 1 to July 27. Registration is already underway. The program will include a story time followed by a movie and popcorn. Participants will receive a time sheet to record their time spent reading, and every child completing the time sheet will be invited to a special party with awards and certificates at the conclusion of the program. Children of all ages and abilities are invited to participate.

Summer Reading in Decatur

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur will begin its summer reading program, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" June 7, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This program will continue every Tuesday in June. The program is open to kids, ages 5-9. The Iva Jane Peek Public Library is located at 121 N. Main St., at the four-way stop light in Decatur. Fairmount Cemetery Association

The Fairmount Cemetery Association will have its annual dinner and business meeting on Sunday, May 29, at the Fairmount Community Building (the old school house). Dinner will be at 12:30 p.m. and the business meeting immediately following. The meal will be potluck with each family bringing its own tableware and drinks. President David Patterson reminds each family that the cemetery is operated completely by donations. If your parents and grandparents or other family members are buried there, you are encouraged to bring a donation for mowing and upkeep. Kids' Free Fun Day

The Gentry Medical Center will host "Kids' Free Fun Day" from 8 a.m. until noon on Saturday, June 4, at the Gentry Medical Center and Smith Drug in Gentry. The health fair will include hot dogs, drinks, a dunk tank, bounce house, games, face painting, sack races, prizes, giveaways and more. Gentry Fire and Police Departments will be on hand. Local businesses and organizations are donating gift certificates. The event is open to the public.

Senior Center Benefit

The Gentry Senior and Wellness Center is having a cupcake soiree on Thursday, May 26, at the Victory Baptist Church in Gentry at 6:30 p.m. Chef Janet Novotny will be holding a cupcake decorating class for her sous-chefs which will be auctioned off by Rob Hopkins later that evening. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be served for a $5 donation. This will be an evening of food, fun and friends. Support the community by making sure "no senior goes hungry."

Volunteers Needed

The Gentry Senior Center is in need of a couple of volunteers looking to give back to the community by helping with home-delivered meals. This will be one day a week for three hours. Please call 736-0378 for more details.

NAGS to Meet

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet Monday, May 23, at 6 p.m., at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 South Main. For further information, call 479-271-6820. The public is welcome.

C.O.R.E. Giveaway

Free food and personal items will be available from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Gravete Civic Center. This is a C.O.R.E. giveaway and free items will be available to anyone who needs them.

Community Dinner

Living Water Ministries of Decatur, located on Arkansas Highway 102 just across from the FNA plant, will be hosting a free community dinner from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. The dinner will feature gospel music, with all singers welcome. Games, including volleyball, horseshoes and wagon rides, are planned. Quilting Class

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving Street S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Gravette AG Yard Sale

The Gravette Assembly of God Church will be holding a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. The church is located on Highway 72 on the west side of Gravette.

Yard and Craft Sale

Gentry Masonic Lodge 222 will be hosting an indoor community yard and craft sale on May 20 and 21, from 7 a.m. till 6 p.m. each day, at its lodge building on Arkansas Highway 59. The lodge will keep a precise record of what is sold, at what price and who consigned the item. The only thing the lodge is asking for this service is that no one brings junk and that a minimum 10 percent donation on the gross of each item sold be given to the lodge. Ozark Family Campmeeting

The Ozark Family Campmeeting will be held May 31 through June 2 in Gentry, with services each evening at 7 p.m. Mark Finley, author of "The Next Superpower, Ancient Prophecies, Global Events and Your Future," will be guest speaker.

Gravette Farmers' Market

Gravette farmers' market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Old Town Park. Offerings include locally-grown fruits and vegetables, beef and pork, eggs, a variety of plants, baked goods, jams and jellies. Local crafts will also be featured. Market vendors set up booths in the covered pavilion at the park. The market accepts WIC vouchers and senior market produce coupons issued by the Area Agency on Aging.

Gentry Farmers' Market

The farmers' market in Gentry will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the south-side (Arkansas Highway 12) parking area of Gentry City Park. Farmers may set up between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

NWA Riding Club

NWA Riding Club will be holding bi-weekly play days at a new arena located at 16949 Highway 102 West in Decatur. Play days will begin with exhibition rides at 2:30 p.m., followed by regular events at 3 p.m. Events will include pole bending, keyhole, barrel racing, goat tying (tentative) and flag racing (tentative). The deadline to sign up for events is 2:30 p.m. Upcoming dates include May 21, June 11 and June 18. Regular play-day events are $5 each and exhibition rides are $4. Family memberships are $25 per year. NWA Riding Club is a family-oriented, non-profit organization that offers trail rides, fun events and camp outs throughout the year in addition to play days. Free Shoe Distribution

Samaritan's Feet, in cooperation with local United Methodist Churches from Gravette, Sulphur Springs and Bella Vista, will host a shoe distribution event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at the Gravette United Methodist Church located on the corner of 2nd Street and Akron. Samaritan's Feet is a nonprofit organization that shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of children locally and around the world with a gift of free new socks and shoes for back to school. All school age children in the Gravette School District are invited to sign up and attend this event. They may stop by the Gravette Public Library, 119 Main Street, S.E., to get their registration form (child's shoe size must be provided). Forms should be returned to the library by June 15.

Men's Breakfast

First Baptist Church of Highfill will hold a men's fellowship breakfast on the first Saturday of each quarter at 8 a.m. All adult and youth men are welcome. For more information, call 479-233-0242.

Highfill Food Pantry

The Highfill United Methodist food pantry is open from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. For more information, call the church at 479-736-1275.

Maysville Food Giveaway

A free food distribution is held the first Saturday of each month at the Maysville Bible Church, Arkansas Hwy. 72 and Cunningham, in Maysville. Anyone who is in need of food is welcome to attend.

Decatur Food Pantry

Decatur United Methodist Church has a community food pantry open the first and third Thursday of each month. The only requirement for the pantry is that one live in the 72722 zip code area. An identification and a piece of mail showing one's residence in the Decatur area are required. There is also a USDA commodity program available which is income-based. Those wishing to do so can fill out an application to see if they qualify.

Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas Hwy. 59 N. in Gravette and at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at Imagine Before and After School Care, 206 Birmingham St., S.E. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Hwy. 12, between Highfill and Vaughn. Everyone is invited.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
