DECATUR -- The Decatur Chamber of Commerce held its annual honors banquet in the cafeteria of Decatur High School May 9.

Each year the chamber recognizes the top seniors in each graduating class for their hard work and dedication in the pursuit of an education. This year the chamber awarded Haley Burden, the 2016 valedictorian, a $300 scholarship, and Tyler Riddle, salutatorian, a $200 scholarship to be used at a college of their choice.

The chamber and the Decatur School District sponsored this year's banquet. Family, city officials, school board members and school faculty were all on hand to congratulate both seniors for a job well done.

At the end of the program, Justin Lovitt, chamber president, presented Burden and Riddle with a bag full of supplies and other amenities.

The scholarships were awarded by Lovitt during the awards ceremony at Peterson Gym later that evening.
