GRAVETTE -- Employees of the Gravette post office participated in the National Association of Letter Carriers' Stamp Out Hunger Food drive on Saturday, May 14. They said the drive was very successful this year and reported they collected a total of 2,066 pounds of food.
Postal patrons on the rural routes were asked to place bags of nonperishable food items beside their mail boxes on the 14th for pickup by their letter carriers. A large bin was available in the lobby of the post office throughout the week where patrons could place food items. Donations of food were also received from several businesses and individuals in town.
Lorrie Amos, sales and service associate at the post office, expressed appreciation to all who were involved in this annual food drive.
"Thanks to all the post office employees and businesses and the individuals who brought food to the post office and left it for pickup by their carriers," Amos said.
Those who contributed to the drive included Charlotte Robinson and family, McKee Foods, Gravette Station, Bank of Gravett, Gravette C-Store, Ty Russell, Austin Drug, Teasley Drug, Arvest Bank, SportsWired, Kent Leonard, Shelter Insurance, Jackie Lambert and Maysville Handy Stop.
All donations will be delivered to the food bank at the Harvest Baptist Church for distribution in the local area.
