Decatur loses to top team in conference

DECATUR--The Decatur Bulldogs put up a gallant fight Friday night against one of the toughest teams in the 2A 4 conference, the Danville Little Johns. In the end the Little Johns took the victory by 26 points.

The Bulldogs traveled southeast Oct. 28 to take on the Little Johns in the stadium at Danville High School in one of the longest road trips of the season.

The Little Johns held the number one spot in the 2A 4 conference going into the Bulldogs match, with a perfect 7 and 0 overall record.

The Bulldogs came into this game after a much-needed victory against Western Yell County last week and in a tie for sixth place with the Magazine Rattlers with a 1 and 4 conference record.

The Danville offensive and defensive units proved too strong and allowed only one Decatur touchdown through three quarters of play. But late in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs fought back with two touchdowns and a conversion. This was not enough for Decatur, falling short as time expired and giving the Danville Little Johns the victory 45 to 19.

Decatur's scores came on two touchdowns by Alex Lee, a 1-yard pass reception from Leng Lee and a 1-yard run. Leng Lee scored on a 51-yard run for Decatur's other touchdown.

The Decatur Bulldogs dropped to 1 and 5 in conference and 1 and 7 overall going into their final game of the regular season on Nov. 4.

It will be senior night at Bulldog Stadium as the Decatur Bulldogs take on the Lavaca Golden Arrows in the final regular season conference matchup of 2016.

Seniors on the team include Leng Lee, Brandon Coker, Troy Kell, Cole Davis and Daniel Seo. They play their final home game of their high school career.
