Maysville EH Club meets

MAYSVILLE -- Maysville EH Club members met at the community center for the October 26 meeting. Quiche was the main dish for the noon meal hosted by Ginger Yocum.

The meeting was called to order by Orpha Wardlaw. Jane Wilber welcomed everyone and thanked Ginger for hosting the meal. The group sang Albuquerque Turkey followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Inspiration was given by Gwen Singleton.

Lesson was given by Orpha on care and preservation of antique quilts and textiles. She gave several tips on cleaning vintage quilts and storing them. Quilts may be laundered in the bathtub in lukewarm water and a gentle detergent. Swish gently with your hands, rinse thoroughly and dry flat. Remove stains by soaking in ammonia, borax, lemon juice or vinegar. Store quilts using acid free paper between the layers and never use mothballs. Store in a clean box with a lid or a clean pillow case. Never store in plastic bags or containers. Avoid hanging unless the weight is distributed evenly.

Cultural art was given by Orpha and Jewel Crawley. Orpha showed a vintage quilt, and Jewel one she had recently made. Robin Reichardt showed a T-shirt she made at a recent craft workshop.

Gwen Singleton called the roll and read the minutes and treasurers report.

County Council will be November 18 at the Heritage Baptist Church in Gravette. Dianna Afuvai made a lovely centerpiece for the event. Jane and Ginger volunteered to bring silent auction items. Members are to bring a 16-count box of crayons and a small coloring book as community service for the Shoebox Ministry.

The club will meet at the Maysville Handi Stop at 11 o'clock November 17 for lunch before going to the community center for the meeting at 1pm.

Plans were made for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner, which will be November 12. Serving will start at 5:30. Robin Reichardt will make fliers. A cleaning day was scheduled for 9 o'clock November 9.

The meeting was adjourned with the benediction.
