Finanical Aid Night set Nov. 17 in Gravette

Gravette High School will be hosting its annual financial aid night on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m. Students and parents are encouraged to attend. College prep, FASFA, ACT, scholarship opportunities and financial information will be discussed at this parent seminar. Those needing help completing FASFA should bring both parent and student 2015 tax documentation. College financial specialists will be available to assist students and parents complete the 2016-2017 FASFA. Since FASFA access opened Oct. 1 instead of Jan. 1, the school is hosting the informational night earlier this school year. For students starting college during the fall of 2017, post-secondary schools will be basing financial aid on the students' and parents' 2015 taxes.

Quilting class slated Nov. 12 at church

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share. Please note this is a change from the regular third Saturday meeting of the group.

Shop Local Saturday and Matinee Movie planned in Gentry

Saturday, November 19, is the day for Shop Local Saturday and a free matinee movie and popcorn in Gentry. "KUBO and the Two Strings" will be shown at Gentry Public Library at 2 p.m. Children may be dropped off between 1 and 2 p.m. and should be picked up by 4 p.m. Both the movie and the popcorn are free. While the children are watching the movie, parents and other family members are encouraged to do some local shopping. And, to help with that, a Christmas open house is planned in the Carl Gym on Gentry's Main Street (just west and across the street from the library).

Roll, cinnamon roll sale

The Billy V. Hall Senior Citizens Center is taking orders for fresh rolls and cinnamon rolls for your Thanksgiving dinner. Fresh rolls are $5 a dozen and cinnamon rolls are $1 each. Call 787-5950. Orders will be taken through Monday, Nov. 21. Pickup for orders is Wednesday, Nov. 23, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Center.

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox accepting doations at FBC Gentry

There will be a drop-off center at Gentry First Baptist Church youth building the week of Nov. 14-21 for donations to the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox project. Some suggested items for inclusion are: Ivory bar of soap in ziploc bag, a cup with a washcloth stuffed inside, toothbrush, comb or hair pick, wooden pencils and sharpener, crayons or colored pencils, scissors, bouncy ball, matchbox cars for boys, small dolls for girls, stickers, T-shirt or flip flops, stuffed animals. Each day the center will be open for at least two hours to accept shoeboxes filled with special gifts for boys and girls across the world who might not receive anything if not for these shoeboxes. Hours will include the following: Nov. 15 from 3 to 5 p.m.; Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Nov. 17 from 3 to 8 p.m.; Nov. 18 from 2 to 5 p.m.; Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Nov. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m.; and Nov. 21 from 8 to 10 a.m.

Toy toss planned in Gentry

The second annual toy toss to benefit the Northwest Arkansas Children's Center is planned during the Gentry High School girls' basketball game in Gentry on Friday, Nov. 18. Students are collecting new stuffed animals for the shelter, and the toys may be tossed down onto the basketball court during the girls' basketball game immediately following the first score by the Lady Pioneers. Santa Claus will be on hand to help with the toy collection. New stuffed animals can be brought to Friday's game and tossed down onto the court, or they may be placed into donation drop boxes located at the high school.

Gentry Community Thanksgiving Service set

The Gentry Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at the First Assembly of God church on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. Several churches from the Gentry area will be represented through songs and other types of ministry. Everyone is welcome to worship with them. Please bring finger foods for fellowship after the service. The church is located at 821 East Main Street, just east of the Dollar General Store.

Maysville Thanksgiving Dinner set

The Maysville Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Maysville Community Building. Serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. The Maysville EH Club will furnish the turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and drinks. Community members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert.

Church holding hat and glove giveaway

Fellowship Full Gospel Church in Decatur is having a hat and glove giveaway at the Decatur Train Depot from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Nov. 19, to ensure that area residents stay warm during the winter months. Anyone needing a winter hat or a pair of gloves is invited to come to the event.

Horton family hosting anniversary reception

The family of Max and Pauline Horton will be hosting a 60-year anniversary reception on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Corner Cafe, located at 109 N. Main St., Southwest City, Mo. Everyone is invited. No gifts please.

Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's showgrounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at www.tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meetings first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
