GRAVETTE -- PAWS Students of the Month at Glenn Duffy Elementary School were honored at this month's Rise and Shine assembly. Each winner was presented a T-shirt sponsored by the Glenn Duffy Elementary PTO. PAWS ("Pawsitive" and Wise" Students) award winners for November are Joseph Beem of Gravette, Kailyn Deady of Gravette, Emma Ensor of Bella Vista, Hayden Heller of Bella Vista, Asher Sisemore of Bentonville and Luna Thornton of Gravette.

The Glenn Duffy Elementary PAWS Program incorporates character education and positive behavior into the school community. Each month PAWS skills are chosen and discussed in classroom guidance in relation to character education. Integrity is the word for this month. This is defined as doing the right thing when nobody's looking. An Ol' West proverb says, "Live a good, honorable life. Then when you are older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time."

PAWS awards are given in the classroom, hallway and cafeteria as an incentive for students to practice the PAWS skill for the month. Students are recognized at monthly Rise and Shine assemblies.

Sydney King and Kendall Yarbrough, juniors at Gravette High School, were guest speakers at the assembly. They shared messages about integrity and read the story, "The Empty Pot," by Demi. The young ladies related the story to how Glenn Duffy students can show integrity at school and at home.

Kindergarten teachers shared a skit about the social skill for the month. Students learned how to use nice talk. Steps we should take are: 1) look at the person you want to talk to, 2) think about what you want to say, 3) keep your hands by your sides and use a friendly face and 4) say what you want to say in a friendly way. Kindergarten teachers are Teresa Spencer, Christina Hartman, Autumn Phillips, Misty Harris, Kristy Sanders, Maryjo Norberg and Tabby Crane.
