Startup company repurposing campaign signs

GENTRY -- With the general election now history and the political races determined, it's time to take down those campaign signs and get rid of them. But one local company is asking that those signs not be destroyed but refurbished for use in future elections.

Politics Recycled is not your typical recycling company. It's a company which recycles political signs by repurposing them for use in future campaigns. The company collects and saves the signs and removes candidate names so that new names can be used on the same signs in the 2020 election and beyond.

"Don't throw away those campaign signs because they can be used again," says Robby Paintover, CEO of Politics Recycled. "Why not save a tree and protect the environment by repurposing and reusing campaign signs?" Paintover asked. "After all, it's wasteful not to reuse them when so many of the slogans remain the same and only the candidate names actually change," he added.

And Paintover has a point.

"Think of all the candidates who run on promises of change," he said. "The candidates may change their views about what needs to be changed, but the signs don't need to be changed; just the names. And think of all the candidates who could use signs with slogans like 'America First' or 'Make America Great Again,'" he said.

And Politics Recycled has a plan for those used political signs. They collect them, display them in their showroom and offer them for sale at discounted rates to new candidates.

"Yes, when candidates come into our business, they can see all the used signs we have in stock and select an available slogan for their campaigns based on the used signs we offer," said Sheila Seller, marketing director for the startup company. "They choose from the used signs we have in stock and we cover over the old candidate's name with the new candidate's name and they are ready to promote their candidacy with a good, quality sign at half the cost," she said.

And there is a high demand for the repurposed campaign signs. According to Paintover, calls are already coming in asking the company to save Hillary for America signs since it would be easy to replace Hillary's name with another candidate's name in upcoming elections. And the "I'm With Her" signs are being requested by a number of women contemplating running for public office, he said.

There have been a few calls to set aside Trump signs too, he said, but most wanted to see if President-elect Trump is able to fulfill his promises before committing, Paintover said. Another "again" might need to be added if he succeeds in the first attempt to make America great again.

"We did get a call from a man named Crump asking if he could get a discounted price on used Trump signs since only one letter would need to be changed," Paintover said.

The company is accepting used signs between the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. at the vacant lot on 23rd Street. Just look for the large collection trailer which says "Saving America from Political Waste" and "Here's Your Sign!"
