"I'll be home for Christmas" parade planned Saturday

— Christmas decorations have been put up all around town and folks in Gravette are getting into the holiday spirit. Citizens, young and old, are eagerly anticipating the annual Christmas parade, to be held this Saturday, Dec. 3. Folks will be gathering about 4 p.m., with the parade expected to kick off at 4:30. This year's theme is "I'll be Home for Christmas," and parade entries will honor men and women who serve their country.

Entries in the parade are being accepted by email. Anyone wishing to be a part of the parade should register by emailing their group name and a brief description of their entry (float, vehicle or motorcycle, walking group or individual and contact person) to [email protected].

The Christmas parade will end at the Gravette Historical Museum where a variety of events are planned. A "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" themed open house is being held, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand in the annex building to hear the children's Christmas wishes. Some of his elves, Town and Country 4-H Club members, will also be there to help the children make Christmas crafts. Steve Huckriede, local photographer, will take photos of the youngsters with Santa.

Bob and Sandy Kelley will return as host and hostess at the Kindley house, where a beautiful collection of Santas loaned by museum commission member Lavon Stark will be on display. Miss Lauren Leonard will be playing holiday tunes on her cello in the music room. A campfire will be burning in the fire pit out back for those who want to explore the grounds of the museum.

Mike von Ree is cooking a big batch of his delicious chili to feed the crowd expected to attend, and area churches have furnished lots of cookies to munch on during the evening. Representatives from the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center will be serving hot cocoa.

"We can't wait to see everyone on Saturday," said a representative of the Greater Gravette Chamber of Commerce, " as we celebrate our service men and women."
