Lady Pioneers overwhelm Lady Bulldogs on basketball court

— The Lady Bulldogs continued to struggle and lost their third game of the season to the Gentry Pioneers at Peterson Gym in Decatur on Nov. 22.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter on a three pointer by Desi Meek. A minute later, the Lady Pioneers put their first points on the score board on a pair of free throws by Eden Hosteter, trailing Decatur by one. Gentry pulled ahead on another free throw by Hosteter and a two-point shot by Chastery Fuamatu to end the first quarter, 5 to 3.

The Lady Pioneers ramped up their offense in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs, 11 to 2, and taking a 16-5 lead going into the halftime break.

Gentry continued its domination of Decatur throughout the second half, scoring 22 points to the Lady Bulldogs' 9 and taking home a 38-14 win.

The Lady Bulldogs will be in action Nov. 28 when they take on the Lady Yellowjackets from Mulberry in the first round of the Decatur Holiday Hoops tournament at Peterson Gym in Decatur. Game time is at 3:30 p.m.

Leading scorer for the Decatur Lady Bulldogs was Cameron Shaffer with 4; followed by Desi Meek, Paige Vann, and Sammie Skaggs, each with 3; and Meagan Smith with 1.

Leading scorer for the Gentry Lady Pioneers was Chastery Fuamatu with 13; followed by Hannah Boss and Madison Ward, each with 5. Other Lady Pioneers scorers included Jaydon Jarnagan and Makayla Case, each with 4; Eden Hosteter with 3; Kya DeZurik with 2; and Bailee Pollard with 1.
