— The homecoming football game and the festivities associated with it are a very special time for high school students all across the country -- a time of parades, pep rallies and, of course, the crowning of a new homecoming queen and king. For several Decatur High School girls, the chance to be named the 2016 homecoming queen will mark one of the highlights of their high school experience.

The 2016 Decatur High School homecoming festival is scheduled to begin Oct. 21, with the parade through downtown Decatur at 1 p.m., and end with the Decatur Bulldog senior football team playing the Western Yell County Wolverines at 7 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium in Decatur.

This is the second year the homecoming parade has snaked its way through the downtown area. The parade will line up at Decatur City Hall at around 12:30 p.m. Then, about 1 p.m., the parade will begin its run on Maple Ave. to Main St. where it will make a left turn and proceed to the four-way light on the corner of Main St. and Roller Ave. It will make a left turn on Roller Ave., proceed to Decatur High School and end at Peterson Gymnasium.

After the parade, a pep rally involving students from Decatur Middle and High Schools, as well as Northside Elementary, will take place in Peterson Gym at approximately 2 p.m.

Then, at 6:30 p.m., the 2016 homecoming queen and king will be crowned. Four senior girls will vie for the coveted title. Who will it be? Will it be Cameron Shaffer, Shaney Lee, Torie Johnson or Makayla James? And who will be homecoming king?

Plan to attend this year's Decatur Homecoming festivities to find out who will become the 2016 Decatur Homecoming queen and king and to support the Bulldogs in their game against Western Yell County at 7 p.m. in Bulldog Stadium.
