— Homecoming ceremonies were held Friday night in Pioneer Stadium at Gentry High School, just before the Gentry-Huntsville football game, and Lali Estrada, a Gentry senior, was crowned homecoming queen. Estrada is one of Gentry's cheerleaders.

Homecoming this year used an Olympics theme, "Pioneers take Gold," and homecoming maids and their escorts walked between two Greek columns as their names were read and they entered the football field.

Following the National Anthem, sung by seniors Alex Savage and Audra Weathers, and the playing of the Gentry High School Alma Mater by the high school marching band, the cheerleaders were introduced, followed by maids and their escorts from the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes.

Senior maids and contestants for the homecoming queen title were Rebecca Brown, Amber Ellis, Lali Estrada, Sidney Kinser, Lily Murphy and Yuliana Stasiv.

Football captains were chosen from among the seniors as well, and this year's captains were Jakeb Ernest and Cole Cripps, with each presented a signed white football carried onto the field by kindergarten mascots Trevor Fox and Easton Ryder Shelley.

Then the announcement was made. Lali Estrada was named Gentry Homecoming Queen 2016. Cripps and Ernest placed the crown carried by kindergarten mascot Afton Coones on Lali's head and clothed her in the royal robe. With flowers presented, Cripps and Ernest gave Estrada the ceremonial kiss.

And then, it was time for football to begin.
