GENTRY -- Bicycles and riders filled a good portion of the north side of Gentry's city park on Saturday night as riders got ready for the first annual glow ride in Gentry.

Riders were of all ages and cycling skills, with many parents bringing their children out for the special ride. Glow sticks were distributed at the ride and fastened to the bicycles and riders. Many came with their bikes already decorated for the colorful event.

And, with sun having settled in the west and the moon above the horizon in the east, the long stream of cyclists set out, a glowing train of colors, heading north on Pine Street to the north side of town, then east through residential areas and past the McKee Foods plant and south to Main Street near the railroad tracks and, finally, back west through downtown Gentry on Main Street and to the city park.

The ride was part of an effort to promote cycling in the city, and the large turnout was a good indication that the effort was a glowing success.
