New holiday in the works for those who don't

Spinning the News

— With Labor Day celebrated on Monday, a growing number of Americans are saying they feel slighted and are calling for a new holiday to honor those not laboring but living on welfare for years on end. Word has it that the president likes the idea is is working on plans for an executive order to establish the new day before he leaves office in January.

A number of federal legislators are jumping on the bandwagon, too, claiming that the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence guarantee a person's right to happiness by not working and receiving assistance from those who do work and are successful.

"It's OK that we honor those who labor on Labor Day, but it's definitely not right that we discriminate against the ever-growing numbers of Americans who don't work but depend upon the federal and state governments for welfare checks, food stamps and other assistance," said Delanore Pendence, Democrat from California and a House member. "We all respect those who work hard and pay their high taxes, but what about those who choose not to work? We need to honor them as well."

While Donald Trump had been busy answering questions about who will pay for a proposed wall to keep undocumented workers out, Clinton is proposing we make undocumented aliens dependents of the state and give them welfare and the opportunity to vote for her.

August is being considered as the month for the new holiday because it is often associated with the lazy days of summer and because it lacks a federal holiday.

"We're thinking early August," said a White House staff member who spoke to us on the condition of anonymity. "We want to keep the holiday early enough in the month so as to beat the mad back-to-school rush," she said.

The name of the holiday is yet undecided, as well, with a number of suggestions under consideration, including Free-be Day, Freeloaders Day and Welfare Day.

According to a Twitter post from the White House, the president favors setting the date on August 4 and calling it Dependents Day. He plans to use the day to urge all Americans to become more dependent upon their government to provide them with all they need and deserve.
