Gentry, Decatur participate in Springdale track meet

SPRINGDALE -- Both the Decatur Bulldogs and Gentry Pioneers were on the road April 6 to participate in the Joe Roberts High School Relays at the Har-Ber High School track complex in Springdale.

Athletes from 15 schools, including Fayetteville, Bentonville, Fort Smith, Harrison and the host Har-Ber, gathered to compete in this 15-event meet.

By sunset, Har-ber High School won the boys' meet while Bentonville took the girls' meet.

Gentry took 10th place with 15 points in the boys' meet on strong performances by Mason Clark, whose 142-00.50 throw propelled him into a first place finish in the discus. Cole Cripps' 13-06 vault gave him a fifth-place finish in the pole vault.

Decatur took 13th with three points in the boys' meet on a 13-00 pole vault jump by Bracy Owens, who placed sixth in that event.

On the girls' side, the Pioneers finished in a ninth-place tie with Farmington at nine points each. Chastery Fuamatu turned in two outstanding performances in the shot put and discus. Fuamatu's 37-04.00 throw in the shot put gave her a second-place finish in that event, while her 110.10 toss earned her a third-place finish in the discus.

Decatur's Desi Meek's sixth-place finish in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles gave Decatur a sixth-place finish with six points in the meet.

Decatur, Gentry and Gravette will participate in the Pioneer Relays at Pioneer Stadium in Gentry April 13. Meet time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
