Lions take early lead, hold on to defeat Wolverines

GRAVETTE -- The Lions maintained their composure and played a strong defensive game to defeat the Wolverines of Bentonville West at a home game on Friday.

The Wolverines put a run on the board in the first, but the Lions added four in the bottom of the inning and another in the second to have a 5-1 lead. Even though the Wolverines fought back and closed the gap by scoring three runs in the third, the Lions maintained their grip and held on for the 5-4 victory.

The Lions scored in the first on a ground out by Hunter Cole, a single by Dalton Cook and a passed ball. A Kilby Roberts single in the second inning brought in Dalton Bass for what would be the game-winning run.

Jonah Keener started on the mound for Gravette. He threw two innings and gave up four runs and three hits. He struck out three. Thomas Tryon threw four and a third innings, gave up no runs and four hits and struck out one. Brady Moorman threw to get the Lions two outs.

Brady Moorman, William Owens, Cole, Cook, and Roberts all had a hit in the game. Cook had two RBIs.
