Council approves lot splits, land sale at special meeting

GRAVETTE -- A special city council meeting was held at the April council committee of the whole meeting at which two ordinances were passed. One ordinance approves a lot split for Reuven Ginton on 6th Avenue, S.W., and the other approves a lot split for Dwight Stidham at 13282 Stidham Lane in the Hiwasse community. Both ordinances passed unanimously.

In other new business during the special meeting, council members discussed the city's water rights. Mayor Kurt Maddox said he had learned that the city of Centerton had been in discussion with Bella Vista about sale of water rights for quite some time without notifying Gravette. The sale of water rights to Bella Vista would add another water provider within the Gravette city limits and make it harder to buy water rights in the future because there would be two cities to deal with. The council voted unamimously to hire a Little Rock firm to halt the deal with Bella Vista, then determine the next steps to be taken to pursue Gravette's purchase of the rights. This will require a $25,000 budget adjustment from the water department budget.

Council members discussed the offer from Dave Marrs of Marrs Developing LLC for purchase of the north half of the old bus barn property. He proposes to build a row of craftsman style homes similar to what he is building in Bentonville. Marrs was present at the meeting and answered questions from council members. They voted unanimously to put the property up for sale by sealed bid, with the stipulation that construction would begin within a certain period of time.
