Lady Bulldogs win first game of season, split doubleheader.

DECATUR -- The Decatur Lady Bulldogs softball team won its first game of the 2017 season when they traveled to Jasper to take on the Lady Pirates in a doubleheader.

On the plate for Decatur in both contests was veteran pitcher Cameron Shaffer, with Desi Meek behind home plate.

In game one, the Lady Bulldogs quickly took control of the contest, leading by as much as 10 runs in the first three innings. The Lady Pirates managed to bring three runners across home plate, giving Decatur a 10-3 lead going into the final two innings.

Decatur added four additional runs before the contest was called in the fifth inning under the 10-run rule, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 14-3 victory and their first conference win of the season.

In the second game, the Lady Pirates gained a two run margin before the game ended in seven innings to take a 17-15 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

The Decatur Lady Bulldogs are now 1-2 overall going into the second half of the softball season.
