CHICKASHA, Okla. -- The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma recently enrolled 25 freshmen who have been awarded one or more of the scholarships that the university offers. Among those who received a scholarship was Destiny Bolles of Gentry.

Bolles has been awarded the Soccer and USAO Regents Mentor Scholarships, which are worth $11,400 and $2,000 respectively. The soccer scholarship is a four-year award through the USAO Athletics department given to high school seniors showing outstanding athletic and academic potential. The Regents Mentor scholarship is a flexible one-year gift designed to help with costs not funded through other sources. It is awarded to high school seniors having a GPA of at least 3.95 or a composite ACT score of 25 or higher.

"Welcoming the newest generation of scholars is always a wonderful time of year," said USAO president John Feaver. "These students' achievements in high school have been nothing short of stellar. We are extremely proud that they have chosen USAO as the next step in what surely will be a bright career. The scholarships offered at the university are a significant reason why so many talented young students chose to come here to further their studies."

USAO offers more than a dozen scholarships to incoming freshmen, including the Regional University Baccalaureate Scholarship, the President's Leadership Council Scholarship, the Now Room Scholarship, numerous sport-related scholarships and many more. Each award is given based on a combination of high school academic excellence, athletic or artistic talent, community service activities and standardized test scores, depending on which scholarship is being sought.

Bolles will begin her college education at USAO with freshmen orientation Aug. 18 and classes starting on Aug. 21.
