Police investigate child accidentally left in hot car

— Police in Gentry were seeking a warrant for felony child endangerment in the case of a 4-year-old child found in a hot car at the McKee Foods plant in Gentry on the evening of July 24, according to information released by the police department.

The child, a 4-year-old boy, was discovered in the car by a McKee Foods employee at approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, July 24. According to police, the child was able to partially open the car door but was unable to get out of his car seat. The child was taken to the plant nurse and also checked by emergency medical personnel but was not hospitalized, according to police.

Police estimate that the child was in the car for approximately 40 minutes and was unintentionally left in the car by the child's father when he went to work.

Outside temperatures at the time were in the low 90s, according to police.

The names of the child and child's parents were not released.

Other Arrests

Gentry police also arrested Rhonda Atkins, 50, of Gentry, in connection with misdemeanor third-degree assault on a family or household member and public intoxication on July 26. According to police reports, the incident occurred in a vehicle when a family member was attempting to give her a ride home and in the police station when Rhonda and the alleged victim then came to the police station for help.

Thefts

Police in Gentry continue to investigate reports of thefts from vehicles parked in Gentry and recommend that residents not leave valuable items in their cars or trucks and not leave vehicles unlocked.
