— The Gentry School District will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its newly constructed Gentry Career and Technical Education Center (GCTEC) building at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8. The public is invited to attend.

Governor Asa Hutchinson and Congressman Steve Womack will offer remarks regarding the GCTEC.

It is through the support of the citizens and stakeholders of Gentry and numerous industry and business partners that this building was made possible, said Christie Toland, Gentry's new assistant superintendent.

"We invite you to celebrate its opening with us on August 8," Toland wrote. "We will also host an open house on August 22 from 5 to 7 p.m."

The new facility will house classroom space for career-oriented training such as the school district's current certified nurse aide and patient care assistant programs and will have a two-bay work area for hands-on training in the diesel mechanic program.

The estimated cost for the career and technical education building, including fees for the architect and construction manager, was approximately $3 million. Funding is from bond sales made possible by the voters' approval of a 3.1 millage increase for the construction project and the building of a new classroom facility at the Gentry Intermediate School.

The GCTEC is located on SWEPCO Road in Gentry, just west of Pioneer Lane.
