Gentry band has much in store for new season

GENTRY -- The Gentry Pride Marching Band has an exciting school year ahead of it! The drum major for this year is Amanda Smith, a senior, and the assistant drum major is Holden Wills, a sophomore. Section leaders are Richard Calico, senior -- percussion; Courtney McCollum; junior -- alto; Parker McCollum, junior -- brass; and Autumn Broglen, sophomore -- woodwinds. The band's 2017-2018 show is called "The Samurai and the Maiden" and is by Randall D. Standridge.

"Our show is about a samurai and a maiden who are in love. The samurai and his best friend end up fighting over the maiden because his best friend is also in love with her. In the end, the maiden ends up sacrificing herself to protect the good samurai," explained Wills.

Kamrey Swinney, a junior, said, "Our show's amazing and I'm really excited for our first football game!"

"This year is going to be the best marching show in the six years that I've been here. Everyone is learning their drill and music quickly. I'm excited to see how we do at our contests!" said band director Karri Wesson.

The band will be performing its marching show at Gentry's first home football game on Sept. 1.
