The sweet sound of help is like nourishment to our souls!

I, like many of you, have days that seem short and, then, the night is even shorter! Like last week, I barely got to going good and it got dark, so I quit and got ready for supper. Seemed like I had just had lunch, but dark is dark. Got washed up and hollered at my close relative to see where she was. As I walked to the back door looking for her, the sun was again up and going on its usual rotation. Go figure!

Yes, I knew what was going on and no, I didn't pay much attention because I knew that the evening news for the next week was gonna ride it to death, show video after still, until we would be plumb sick of the eclipse. Glad the schools were active in the viewing and thankful for the knowledge we were presented, but God is in control and He planned the whole thing awhile ago. Something about keeping things like they ought to be!

I was shocked this morning as I checked the fall calving bunch. A little black bull calf was up and nursing a big black cow! He was about two weeks early and still looked very good, except for his size. The last two weeks before birth put the weight on and make calves look better. I am not caring because he looks like a new and progressive start to the herd! The rest of the cows didn't pay him any mind. The grass is still green and plenty of it, so the herd keeps on grazing.

I am still replacing corner posts in some of the pastures. I used what I could almost afford when I built the fences about a half century ago. They, the posts, worked for a long time and are now giving way. I motioned for the offspring to get the tractor and post hole auger to the east pasture ASAP, but I don't hear them coming so I will rest while waiting.

The rabbits are thick this year, and they were about all killed out six or seven years ago. I think a disease came through from north of the Mason-Dixon and caused an almost complete demise of the bunnies. Actually, to be truthful, Pete at the coffee emporium is the one that brought that to my attention. I had mentioned all the rabbits and he filled us in on the cause of the shortage in the past. I appreciate the education provided at the emporium by knowing friends.

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, the sweet sound of help is like nourishment to our souls! I hear the offspring coming with a tractor to dig post holes and it is a dear blessing to me. If a feller is stranded on the highway, the hum of a coming automobile is so welcomed. When fellers are slaving over an engine that is missing a lick when it finally starts and the shop door pops open with a mechanic smilin' as he steps in, his greeting is a huge and melodious sound! Say something nice to someone because they might be needing to hear a little music too!
