Decatur upset by Kingston in first conference contest

DECATUR -- Students, family members and fans gathered at Peterson Gym Dec. 5 to cheer on the Decatur Bulldogs as they played the Kingston Yellowjackets in the first 1A conference game of the 2017-18 basketball season.

The Decatur senior boys put the first two points on the scoreboard and were able to maintain a 15-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs continued to maintain a slim lead through the first four minutes of the second quarter. But a quick turnaround by the Yellowjackets gave them a 1 point advantage. By the end of the first half the Yellowjackets increased their lead by six, 34-28, going into the break.

Decatur was able to stay within six points throughout the third quarter. Kingston shut down the Decatur offense and defense in the final eight minutes of the contest, outscoring the Bulldogs 24-8. When the final buzzer sounded the Kingston Yellowjackets defeated the Decatur Bulldogs 70-48, handing them their first conference loss.
