Lady Pioneers stop Lady Tigers, fall to Lady Elks

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers picked up a big win against the Lady Tigers of West Fork in Gentry on Friday, taking the lead in the second quarter and building on that lead to finish up 43-15 at the end of the game.

West Fork was up 9-8 after the first quarter, but Gentry scored 18 points in the second quarter and held WestFork scoreless. The Lady Pioneers added 13 points in the third quarter and another four in the final quarter with most of the starters sitting it out while their younger teammates stopped the Lady Tigers from scoring once again.

Chastery Fuamatu led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with 13 points, seven of those in the second quarter. Ariel Nix had 11, with two three-pointers and a free-throw. Hannah Boss had seven points, all in the first half.

Against the Lady Elks on Dec. 12, the Lady Pioneers came up a basket short, losing the conference game, 44-42.

The Lady Elks jumped ahead in the opening quarter, 16-8. And, though the Lady Pioneers took the lead after three, 27-26, they weren't able to hold on to that lead and lost by a single basket at the end of play.

Hannah Boss had 11 points against Elkins, Haley Hays had 14, including two three-pointers.

The Lady Pioneers finished the week 4-1 in conference play and 5-5 overall.
