DECATUR -- History repeated itself at Peterson Gym in Decatur Dec. 19 as both the junior and senior Decatur Bulldogs boys' teams outscored the Watts, Okla., Engineers to claim victory in the second meeting of the season between these two teams.

Both boys' teams (along with both girls' teams) traveled to Watts Nov. 14, where the Bulldogs pulled off a 64- 50 win. The junior Bulldogs also had an easy time defeating their counterparts, 37-20.

The Dec. 19 contest was just a little different this time around as both teams came off the bench a little sluggish in the shooting department with a combined 11 points in the first quarter, eight for the Bulldogs, gracing the scoreboard.

After head coach John Unger and his Watt's counterpart gave their respective teams a quick pep talk, the second quarter picked up the pace a little, with Watts outscoring Decatur 11-10. But it was not enough to overtake Decatur and the Bulldogs took an 18-14 lead into the halftime break.

During the second half, Decatur managed a 14-12 point margin in the third quarter and 11-10 in the final quarter. But the deficit in the first quarter, coupled with the stronger Decatur defense, proved to be Watts' undoing as Decatur pulled off its third victory of the season, 43-36.

After a poor performance against Life Way Christian Warriors Dec. 15, Taylor Haisman (scoring only four in that contest) picked up the pace and led the Decatur Bulldogs' scoring drive with 17, followed by Ryan Ross with 14. Rounding out the scoring was Garry Woods and Jimmy Mendoza, each with six.

The junior high boys' team also won its game against the junior Engineers, 47-23. In that contest, Kevin Garcia stepped in as team leader for the junior Bulldogs, replacing Joseph Armstrong who departed the team a few days earlier (by choice).

Leading the scoring drive for the junior Decatur boys' was Garcia with 22, followed by Bryson Funk with six and Christian Ramirez with five. Carlos Hernandez and Kevin Sanchez each had three points, followed by Andres Revolorio, Edger Herrera, Enrique Rubi and Royer Hernandez each with two.

Both the junior and senior high Decatur Bulldog teams will close out the 2017 portion of their season Dec. 29 as they take on the Life Way Warriors at Warrior Gym in Centerton. Game time for the junior high boys is at 5 p.m., with the senior boys' contest beginning at 7 p.m. For more information on this contest, go to decatursd.com.
