— Officer Todd Shannon, of the Gravette Police Department, was given a letter of commendation recently for performing CPR and reviving an unresponsive woman and apparently saving her life.

The incident occurred on Sept. 26, 2016, when Officer Shannon was requested by the Benton County Sheriff's Office to go to an address outside the Gravette city limits. The sheriff's deputy on duty was so far away, he requested assistance from the Gravette PD. Officer Shannon was the first person on the scene and, when he arrived, he found an unconscious, unresponsive woman lying on the floor.

Shannon began CPR and continued it until the county deputy arrived and assisted him. When the EMS crew arrived, it took over the woman's care.

It was the opinion of Gravette Fire Chief Rob Douthit and the EMS crew that, without Officer Shannon's quick action, the woman might not have survived.

"Officer Shannon is a great asset to the city of Gravette and the Gravette Police Department," said Gravette Police Chief Chuck Skaggs when he presented the commendation.
