Metz hired to be new school superintendent in Gentry

— The school board, on Monday, accepted the recommendation of its screening committee and unanimously appointed Terrie Metz to take over as superintendent of Gentry Public Schools for the 2017-2018 school year, which begins on July 1.

Metz is in her 28th year as an educator and is in her second year as the school district’s federal programs/curriculum coordinator. She has been with the Gentry School District for 12 years. She served five years as assistant principal at the high school and taught math at the intermediate and middle school levels prior to that. She was two times chosen as teacher of the year at the intermediate school.

Metz earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wyoming and is currently furthering her education at Harding University.

She and her husband live in Gentry and her two children are graduates of Gentry High School.

Metz thanked the board and the committee following her appointment and said she was excited to begin working together with the board to provide a quality education to Gentry students.

Randy Barrett, current school superintendent, wrote to the staff following the meeting: “I believe her leadership style will foster a dedicated, highly-committed approach to the mission of the district which is … to work with the community in providing safe and successful experiences for each student. I offer her my personal congratulations and look forward to working with her in the transition.”
